Dental Implants

If you want to replace a single tooth, several teeth or all of your teeth, dental implants can be the best long-term solution. Implants are secured in the jaw, so your replacement teeth will look, feel and function just like natural teeth and you won't have to change your diet.

To find out more about implant treatments in Perth, book a consultation with our experienced implant dentist Dr Ahmed Elsayed at Ocean Reef Dental Surgery. Call us today on 08 9307 6700 or make an online booking to find out whether dental implants could be the right choice for you.

What are the benefits of dental implants?

If you have missing teeth, this can affect more than just how you look. Missing teeth may also affect how you eat and speak, and remaining teeth may begin to shift into the gaps and go crooked. For these reasons and more, dentists recommend replacing teeth that are missing or too badly damaged to save.

Replacing teeth with dental implants is a more complex procedure than dentures or a dental bridge, as it involves minor surgery, but this treatment has a number of advantages. Compared to dentures and bridges, implant-supported teeth:

  • are stronger and longer lasting
  • don't require altering healthy teeth
  • don't affect what you can eat
  • support the jaw, preventing further bone loss and a sunken appearance

How are dental implants placed?

If you decide that dental implants are right for you, our dentists will explain what the procedure involves and we'll take x-rays and other images to help us plan your treatment. Local anaesthesia or other sedation is used so you won't feel pain during the procedure.

The dental implant itself is a titanium post that is implanted in the jaw to replace a missing tooth root. It will then take several months for your jaw bone to grow around the implant and hold it securely in place. We can then attach your permanent prosthetic tooth or teeth.

Am I a suitable candidate for dental implants?

Dental implants can replace individual teeth, several teeth or a whole upper or lower arch of teeth, as long as there is enough bone mass in your jaw to support the implants. Your gums should also be healthy and free from problems such as gum disease before beginning treatment.

Our dentists will examine your teeth and jaws and let you know whether dental implants are an option for you. If you have a smaller jaw, we may discuss a bone graft procedure or alternative treatments.

If you are not eligible for implants, or you would prefer a different treatment, other options for replacing teeth include full or partial dentures or a dental bridge.
