Preventative Care

Maintaining twice yearly or annual dental check-ups is imperative in maintaining good oral health. At Ocean Reef Dental Surgery, we will carry out a comprehensive check of your whole mouth and jaw. We aim to take a thorough and individualised approach, taking into account your previous dental and medical history. Additionally, we will earnestly listen to your queries and concerns. Your initial and necessary oral appointments will be aided by digital radiographs (x-rays) and intra-oral cameras.

Regular check-ups

Regular recall visits are important for your overall dental health and aids the prevention of dental problems such as tooth decay and gum disease. Depending on your overall needs and oral health, it is recommended that most people have periodic examinations every 6 to 12 months. This periodic check-up, is usually incorporated into a hygiene appointment, so your mouth is examined, checked for oral cancers and cleaned in one convenient appointment.

Hygiene Appointment

At Ocean Reef Dental Surgery, our philosophy involves a commitment to preventative measures, to control or hinder the evolution of gum disease and forms of other oral problems. Regular oral hygiene appointments are integral in meeting this aim. During a hygiene appointment at Ocean Reef Dental Surgery, we will thoroughly clean your teeth from plaque, calculus (hardened plaque or tartar) and attempt to remove surface staining. Additionally, your gums will be checked for gum disease and your mouth will be thoroughly checked for signs of oral cancer.

Detection of oral problems may prevent you from requiring more extensive (and expensive) dental work in the future. Additionally, detection of oral problems does not always mean that further dental treatment is needed, the solution may be as simple as a change in your daily oral routine, or the use of additional professionally recommended products to control areas that have greater risk of decay or plaque build-up.

We will discuss in detail, any issues we have identified and then we will present varying treatment options that are best suited to you and your budget. If extensive or ongoing treatment is needed, we will pull together a personalised treatment plan. If required, we will organise specialist referrals for you, if we believe it is in your best interest.
